Biography

Dr Punam Krishan is a practising NHS GP and media medic based in Glasgow, Scotland. â€‹‍Currently, Dr Punam a resident GP’s on the popular daytime show 'BBC Morning Live' as well as being the resident GP on BBC Radio Scotland where she holds a phone in surgery covering anything and everything related to health and lifestyle.

As a mother to two young children, she has a specialist interest in maternal and family health as well as mental health. Recognising a need to offer parents a real talking, easy-to-understand format when it comes to looking after their family needs, Punam set up 'The Medic Mum' Podcast during the COVID-19 pandemic with a fellow GP mother. As a 'lockdown mum' herself, she connected with thousands of parents where the conversations connected health to reality. It has been hugely popular and the podcast was shortlisted for 'Best Podcast' at the Glomama Awards 2022.

‍A keen writer, Punam’s credits include Vogue, Hello, and Grazia but she also regularly reports on health news as a broadcaster on TV, on the radio and in the papers. She is a columnist for The i Newspaper, and was shortlisted for the 'British Journalism Awards' 2021 for 'Comment Journalism'. She has authored her first children’s book “How to be a doctor and other life-saving jobs.”‍ and has recently also started working on two more, one of which will be out in Autumn 2024 and 2025.

Punam identifies as being Scottish-Indian and is always keen to bring both elements of her vibrant cultures to the scene. Competing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2024, Punam performed a vibrant traditional Bollywood routine that the BBC celebrated as a "huge moment" for representation, inspiring others in the Indian community to embrace their culture.

Most recently, Dr Punam hosted a Q&A event for Warner Bros and Discovery+ for The Bad Skin Clinic show - talking all things skin.

​
